The Flaming Pit Restaurant and Piano Lounge is located on "The Great Road", an old Rolling Road which connected the tobacco port of Georgetown with small towns through Montgomery and Frederick Counties.

The land on which The Flaming Pit is located was owned during much of the 19th century by the Tayloe family and also by Elizabeth Hutton Caulfield (William Rich Hutton's daughter who was a renowned civil engineer who designed the C&C canal, The Western Maryland Railroad and the Metropolitan Branch). From 1912 to 1930, Charles Eader operated his 40-Acre farm from this house, raising livestock , later he sold the building with 4 acres to Isaac and Athusa Creed.. The property was auctioned on September 8, 1934.

From 1938 to 1948, the property was owned by Leslie E Johnson, who operated "Johnson's Friendly Tavern" here. Later it was replace by "The Friendly Tavern", and later by Tom Musser's BBQ Pit. Buck Floyd operated the "Fools Three" from 1969 to 1974, and later there was an Italian restaurant here.

Although much of the building is new, and the old has been altered, stone fireplaces and arches in the bar room and the old second story rear windows remind one of the building's colorful history and its location on the "Great Road" at Seneca Creek. Now a days, the Flaming Pit restaurant is well-known for its authentic home-style cuisine.

One of the dishes diners return for is The Prime Rib of beef, a generous cut of the finest aged prime rib of beef roasted slowly to retain its natural juices and served to your taste, another favorite dish of the house is Petite Filet Mignon Center Cut, a special treat tender and juicy. A six ounces portion served with Bearnaise sauce on the side. Don't forget also to try our King Crab legs, Fresh Filet of Salmon and our popular Maryland Jumbo Crab cakes . All dinner come with tossed salad, vegetable, choice of fries, baked potato or rice pilaf and our home made BREAD that you must try.

Always the perfect end of a great meal is the dessert , and we are proud of our bakery that offer to you our signature dessert Homemade White Chocolate Mousse Cake that got in 2005 an award at the Carnival of Chocolates and auctions, also try our Tiramisu, Moccachino Mousse Cup , Carrot cake, Fruit Cake and if you want to order any dessert just call us.
